Hello there,
I hope this e-mail finds you well? My name is Simon and I am e-mailing to find a out a little bit more about your services. I have been ‘out’ for the last six years but have seemingly filled my life with writing books and a doctorate which have seriously reduced my time in terms of embracing who I am and fully accepting this part of my life. I would be interested in any 1-1 support you are able to offer in terms of helping me to come to terms with the fact that I seem to have lost many of the connections I had with my friends (who are all straight, married with kids) as I feel rather out on a limb and a bit lost at the moment. I also notice you have a men’s group and i just wondered what numbers attend this and the age range which attends. I have come to a point where I need to do something about my life and I feel approaching you may be the thing which helps me get over this feeling of being lost and alone and rather ‘fuzzy’ at the moment – my life before had a lot of purpose and drive and direction and now this has gone I am at a bit of a loss in terms of what to do next. I have decided, however, to strive to embrace being gay and see if bringing someone into my life would help me to appreciate the need for care, compassion and companionship from someone else.
Apologies for the long e-mail and the rambling! Any support or advice would be appreciated.
Simon
Hi Simon,
Thanks for your e-mail and please accept my apologies for the delay in getting back to you. We’ve all been rather busy here at Derbyshire Friend recently and I have only just received your e-mail.
It certainly sounds as if you would benefit from attending ‘ReachOut’ – our men’s social group. This particular group is open to anybody over the age of 18. However, the group typically attracts people aged 30 and over. Historically, the group is always well attended and usually brings in at least 15 people per week. The group is always very welcoming to new members and decides upon its own activities. ‘ReachOut’ meets weekly on Thursdays from 7.30pm ’til 9.00pm at Derbyshire Friend (Friary Street, Derby). I sincerely hope the group can give you what you are looking for.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us on 01332 207704 or by e-mail on info@gayderbyshire.org.uk
Kind regards,
Travis
