HIV & AIDS
Derbyshire Positive Support (DPS) is a voluntary organisation that provides care services to people infected with and affected by HIV in Derbyshire. It was formed in a merge of two similar organisations, Derby and District HIV/AIDS Support Services, and Derbyshire Body Positive, both of which were established in 1987.
Some of the services we offer include:
Drop in, peer support, safe supportive environment, one-to-one support (buddies), small grants for individuals, complementary therapies, groups and workshops, treatment education resources, advice and guidance, HIV awareness training / events, respite acre, comprehensive referrals, telephone helpline.
DPS has a membership which is made up of volunteers and service users and encourages its service users to get involved in the development of their own service provision. To access services you need to be HIV-positive or a partner, relative friend or carer of someone who is. You can be referred through your Health Advisor, Social Worker, GP, Consultant, Mental Health, derbyshireFRIEND or you can self-refer. To access some services proof of HIV-positive diagnosis is required.
If you would like to volunteer for DPS and get involved in delivering services, contact the Services Co-ordinator on 01332 204020, or by fax on 01332 332107.
